It’s open mic night for actors, actresses, and vocalists at the 2ndRose Center Theatre Slam event.  Friday, September 7 at 7 PM, local performers will gather in Prater Hall to compete for cash prizes in three categories.  Participants are asked to prepare a monologue of up to 7 minutes in either drama or comedy, or both.  Vocalists are asked to prepare 2 pieces from a musical to perform.  Vocalists must arrange their own accompaniment or provide their own music.  Vocalists are encouraged to call event coordinator, Candy Durman, to discuss any technical needs for their performance.  Judging takes place in two rounds.  The participants with the highest average scores from both rounds win.  Points can be deducted for going over the time limit.  Please be advised, the material presented is the sole choice of the performer, and as a result, some material may not be suitable for children.

Everyone pays a $5 cover charge, which is split among the winners.  Adult beverages and light snacks are permitted.  Doors open at 6:30 PM, competitions start at 7 PM.  “This fast-paced, fun night gives local performers an opportunity to show off their skills before a live audience without the long-term commitment to performing in an entire show”, says Durman.  Last Theatre Slam winner was Lee Russell.
