The Morristown Art Association is an organization dedicated to the support of visual artists and their work. The MAA meets monthly at the Rose Center on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. Among other activities, the MAA sponsors an annual juried show at the Rose Center, an invitational show, painting workshops, and speakers. From Africa to Appalachia Foundation
Founded by Jovita Wells and Sammie Nicely, the Foundation sponsors the annual "From Africa to Appalachia" celebration in February at Rose Center. The Foundation also sponsors exhibits and shows during the year. Linnie Jackson and Jane Buis are co-directors. The Rose Center Quilt Guild is devoted to the art and craft of quilting. The Quilt Guild members meet at 10:00 A.M. on the third (3rd) Tuesday of each month at Rose Center. Recipients of our community service quilts are CEASE, Pregnancy Crisis Center, and Youth Emergency Shelter. Among the Guild's projects are an annual quilt show in the Rose Center September through mid-October, workshops, and creation of a quilt to benefit the Mountain Makins Festival. Rose Center Scrappers Quilters' Guild The Rose Center Scrappers Quilters' Guild is devoted to the art and craft of quilting. The Quilters meet at 6:30 P.M. on the first Monday of each month at Rose Center. The Embroiderers' Guild is devoted to the craft of embroidery. The Guild meets the second (2nd) Tuesday of the month at 7 P.M. at Rose Center. The Guild's efforts include workshops, speakers, and work sessions. The Guild is connected to the Embroiders' Guild of America. Bradford-Rose Sons of Confederate Veterans The Bradford-Rose Sons of Confederate Veterans are involved in educational activities concerning the Civil War. The Camp meets on the fourth Saturday of the month at 6:00 P.M. at Rose Center. Among other activities, the Camp is involved in re-enactments at the Mountain Makins Festival and throughout the Lakeway Area. The Camp provides speakers for schools and community groups and is involved in historical research. Hamblen County Historical Society The Hamblen County Historical Society was organized in 1978. The first president of the society was Mr. George S. Hale. The general purpose of the society is to promote the understanding and appreciation of local history, especially as it relates to Hamblen County and the surrounding area of east Tennessee. Currently members of the Historical Society meet bimonthly. The meetings are held at the Center on the second Sunday of the even months at 2:30 P.M. If you would like more information about the society please call Bill Henderson at (423) 581-8386. The Lakeway Children's Choir was founded in the fall of 2000 by Laura Ritter. Its main purpose is to provide children in the Lakeway area a positive choral experience. Emphasis is placed on teaching healthy vocal techniques, basic music reading skills, and preparing singers for public performances. The choir is open to children in grades 3-8 and meets on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:10 P.M. at the Center. For more information, please call Laura Ritter at (423) 585-5957. The Garden Thyme Herb Society is for people who love working with herbs and would like to meet with others that share this interest. Meetings are held at 6:00 P.M. (7:00 P.M. during Daylight Savings Time) the 4th Monday of every month at the Rose Center. Not only do we share facts about herbs, but also recipes, garden ideas, and our plants. We also have speakers and demonstrators at our meetings. The group is currently working on several community projects: Updating and maintaining the Herb Garden at the Davy Crockett Tavern Museum; planting a kitchen herb garden at the Glenmore Estate in Jefferson city; and redeveloping the herb garden at Rose Center. Newcomers are encouraged to attend meetings, as all are welcome. If you would like to present a program or demonstration please contact the Rose Center. The Rose Service Guild was chartered in 1979. It continues to provide volunteer service and support necessary to the growth and development of Rose Center. Regular meetings are the 2nd Monday, September - November, January - May at 12 Noon in the Rose Center Community Room. If you are interested in joining our efforts, please contact the current president Debbie Fulmer at (423) 587-9724. The Tsoyaha Indian Dancers are a drum and dance group connected to the Boy Scouts. The Dancers meet every Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at Rose Center. The group researches and studies Native American dances. They travel to workshops and drum sessions throughout the United States. They present educational programs for the community and perform each year at the Mountain Makins Festival.
